Earthworks defenses (Forgeworld scenery)

Hello Gentlemen,

A couple of years ago, I decided to acquire a product from Games Workshop's Forgeworld, for my modular tabletop, the "Earthworks"! it is a sturdy piece of resin, very well sculpted, full of little details here and there... It is fully compatible with the "Realm of Battle" tiles from Games Workshop. Its size is 40cm x 40cm.

I was kind of intimidated by its size, so It layed around collecting dust until recent times...  Inspired partially by the fabulous terrain pieces shown in the League of Augsburg's Blog :)

So, here is the final result. I think it is quite versatile, so I can use it with my late XVII century miniatures, and also Warhammer Fantasy Empire (its true context) or Thirty years war.

Now some work in progress pics; I primed it in black, but first, I glued some very fine beach sand in some places where I thought the ground sculpt was too soft for my taste.

then I sprayed with, a cheap spray can,  brown paint in some places, and after that, the long airbrush stage. I airbrushed grey paint in the rocky parts, and then I highlighted it with with lighter colours.

Then a boring part (for me) with a medium to large brush, I blocked the main colours in all those little details...  here a shot before this stage.

And after the main colours where aplied, I washed it with homemade washes, then drybrushed the whole thing with different colours, and paint all the details (it took a while to do so).  The the pigments here and there, to simulate dust , and static grass & tufts everywhere!

And now, with some little men defending their position!

28mm Foundry Huns !

Hello again guys

As I have lots of "active" projects, I painted last year a unit of superb Foundry Huns, I love these little sculpts, I love them so much that I bought all of them hahahaha. I plan to paint all, but for now, just to test paint, I painted a "unit" for Basic Impetus 2.0 of Huns, for my Western Roman army (Patrician Roman army list),  from 400 AD onwards. I tried to paint earthy tones, I used, as always, Vallejo, Foundry and some GW paints and washes. My inspiration was , apart from the paintjobs featured in Wargames Foundry web page,  the pics included in the rather excellent book written by Kevin Dallimore a few years ago, with the Foundry "triad system".
They are a little "shiny" so I will cover them with another layer of acrilic matt varnish. I hope you like them !!

Regards!

Spanish flags, late XVII c.

Hi all,

Here you can find several land (infantry and cavalry) and naval flags for the second half of XVII century. They are from an old book : "Les Triomphes de Louis le Grand"

you can check it here:
https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/btv1b105386860.r=louis%20triomphes?rk=21459;2

The book deals with the captured "enemy" flags of the era of Louis XIV. Most of these flags are featured in the book " The Spanish Armies of the League of Augsburg War" by Boeri, Mirecki and Palau (2002), a must have for any enthusiast in Spanish military history.

(one English flag)

Cheers!

Bolt Action Normandy! German support and Marder

Hi again guys,

Yesterday, I finished painting a 7.5 cmm Pak 40 auf Geschutzwagen 39 (f)... but we will call him Marder from now on haha,  Marder with Pak 40 on an old French tank chasis, the little Hotchkiss H39.  The model itself is Madbob models, a brand who produces uncommon vehicles, like this conversion or Hungarian tanks.  The quality is average, it came only in 2 parts; the gun and the whole chasis with tracks, so i very simplistic design in my opinion, you can choose If you want to use the 105 mm gun or the 75mm. I chose the latter.

I just added a plastic MG 34 and camo net as a "conversion"  The model was painted with AMMO MIG acrilic paints. It is the first time I use them and I am happy with their performance. I have been using Tamiya paints for years... but now I will combine both ranges. I was painted with airbrush, trying to modulate to lights, masking the different camouflages with "Panzer Putty", then I airbrushed satin varnish, put the decals, more varnish and the funny part: Weathering!
filters, oil fading, pin washes, streaking grime, chipping, dust washes, pigments... you now.

I painted as a tank destroyer of the 21 Panzerdivision in Normandy in June 1944.

and this is the result:

Apart from this little "tank" for Bolt Action I want to show you some support units I painted for my German army in 28mm a few months ago:

MG42 team, 81mm mortar and Pak 40 with crew.

the mortar is from Crusader miniatures ( I believe they are dressed for early war, but I don´t care). MG42 and Pak 42 are from Warlord Games, I really like the sculpts, although the Pak 40 barrel is way to big for my taste... It seems more 88mm than 75mm.

Mortar 81mm

Finally, Pak 40 and crew
