30 Years War French: Regiment Picardie finished!

Hello guys,

A few months ago, I started a TYW French army, I have already a command base, a cavalry unit and artillery, but no infantry finished so far, so here you have the first infantry regiment painted; Picardie regiment.

As I am a slow painter, I decided to speed up the process by commissioning some musketeers to the very talented Toby, from Artmasters Studio ( I highly recommend them) because his painting style is similar to mine, so the painted miniatures look nice together.  I based the miniatures and put some grass on the bases. The miniatures are a mix of Foundry, Warlord and Bicorne.

In a few days I will finish another regiment, Turenne, with the mentioned commissioned musketeers and the pikemen and command painted by me. Also an English regiment (for 1656-58) or Rebel Catalan Tercio pro French (1640-58) will be finished in the near future in order to make this small army playable with 3 foot units, 2 horse units, arty and command. After that, it will be expanded with more native french infantry, dragoons, more artillery...

Finished another late Tercio

Some months ago I started to paint a unit for my Spanish army, suitable either for 1670 or League of Augsburg War,  using mainly Front Rank miniatures, you can see the previous post here:

So finally I managed to finish it, a Provincial Tercio, made up of recruits, and ready to fight in Catalonia against the French. Also could they could be used in Flanders, as the uniform was (mostly) off white and red in several Tercios of the Army of Flanders.

In order to give some colour variation, I used 3 different recipes to paint the off white;  Artic Grey (Foundry), Rakarth Flesh (Citadel), Stormvermin Fur (Citadel). 

I really like the way it looks, with those Front Rank miniatures of their "Monmouth rebels" range intermixed with the more professional look of the regular infantry of their late 17c  range.

Fantasy Village PART III: another house finished

Hello guys and Happy New Year!

I have finished another house for my fantasy village project, although I think I could use it for historical games too! 

The house itself is plastic, "Townhouse" from the (I guess) defunct Tabletop Workshop brand, 28mm plastic scenery houses. Is very simple, not many details, but nice enough, and inexpensive. The parts fit perfectly and I think there is no need of glue, but I used plastic glue as I don't need the interiors. 

I glued on some GW plastic bits here and there to add some personality to the house, like a candle, a little chimney and a couple of shields. Those bits add some colours and breaks the monotony.

The painting was simple too, I airbrushed the main colours, and then paint the details with a brush. After that, I applied satin varnish in order to protect the previous paintjob from the oil washes with white spirit.  I faded some dots of oil paints (different colours) to give the house a weathered look, also some pin washes and then drybrush the wood and shingles... Matt varnish and finished!

This year is coming to an end soon, so it is time to make some retrospective thinking about our modelling or gaming year so I have taken notes about aaaaaaall the different projects and miniatures I have painted in 2019, some minor things are not included because little or no remarkable progress has been made, so, hopefully they will be included in 2020 list!

These have been my projects (finished and "work in progress") in 2019, please note that I paint 10 months a year, because July and August I almost no paint because of hot weather ( I live in south eastern Spain!) and holyday journeys.

Air support for Bolt Action: Manchukuo's Air force Nakajima KI-27

Hi guys,

This December I have been painting WW2 stuff, I saw MIDWAY in cinema and I was in Pacific War mood...  so I painted an old pre WW2 aircraft from Imperial Japanese Air Force,  a Nakajima Ki 27 fighter, but not serving the IJA, the fighter is in colours of Manchukuo's Air Force, you know, the Japanese controlled puppet state in Manchuria.

I had a very freak idea some time ago, building a Bolt Action army featuring Manchukuo forces against Chinese and Soviets, with cavalry, tanquettes and some infantry & support weapons... But when I saw this little 1/72 model kit, I fell in love instantly and decided to build it quickly! I bought this kit this month and built/painted it in a couple of weeks.

I also ordered a Japanese cavalry officer and a Type 94 tanquette from Warlord Games, in order to expand my "army", an army which consists today in a single aircraft :P

I painted the model with airbrush and Vallejo/Ammo Mig colours,  and then weathered with oils and pigments,  simple but effective IMHO, I hope you like it!

28mm Late Roman "Funditores" or slingers

Hello guys,

This weekend I managed to finish a "unit" of slingers, called "Funditores" in the "Notitia Dignitatum" I also tried to reproduce the shield design from the mentioned Late Roman document.

The miniatures are plastic Gripping Beast Late Roman infantry box, but with some minor conversions,  I changed the heads (but one, with the nice Panonnian hat) with other plastic kit and a metal head from the same brand,  and used the hands with slings from Dark Age warriors box set and some metal bucklers from Old Glory, very easy!

The miniatures are based for Basic Impetus,  not so many miniatures needed and a lot of fun! I also can use them for Hail Caesar. 

I painted them in a simple colour scheme, red and white,  more tabletop level than showcase, but it is fine enough for me... I have a tendency to paint faster when painting plastic miniatures than metal ones.  Anyway the sculpts are fine, some details are a bit soft, like the sword or "spatha".
